After just 28 weeks of regular season play, the UNCP football team has cracked the national rankings.

WACO, Texas – Days removed from extending its home winning streak out to 10 games with a 30-3 victory over Webber International, the UNCP football team made its debut in the national poll on Monday as the Braves checked in at No. 25 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches Top 25 poll, the organization announced.

UNCP (5-1) joined two other teams in making its debut in the poll this season as Nebraska-Kearney checked in at No. 21 and Angelo State (Texas) was earmarked at No. 23. UNCP is nationally ranked after just their 28th week of play in intercollegiate football, while the Lopers and Rams are making their first appearance in the top 25 since the 2005 campaign.

Having put the lid on its 2009 regular season home schedule, the Braves will begin a regular season-ending four-game road trip on Saturday when it makes the trek to Fairmont, W.V., to battle Fairmont State (1-5) out of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). Kickoff has been set for 3 p.m. at FSU’s Duvall-Rosier Field.
