Strength & Conditioning

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the UNCP strength & conditioning program is to assist student-athletes in reaching their full athletic potential. This mission is attained by reducing the student-athlete’s potential for injury during competition, and increasing their overall athleticism and power.

PHILOSOPHY
The UNCP strength & conditioning staff strive to develop athleticism first and foremost.  If an athlete is trained to improve general athleticism we feel they will be better prepared for the demands of their respective sport.  When training student-athletes we aim to not only increase athleticism, but also enhance qualities that are specific to the demands of each sport (i.e. strength, speed, power, endurance, agility, mobility, flexibility).

Although we are not trying to produce Olympic lifters, powerlifters, or bodybuilders, we will use varying exercises from each discipline to enhance the training or our athletes.  We aim to train the body to move in the most efficient manner possible.  To accomplish this we will continually coach and emphasize proper execution of lifts in the weight room, and warm-up, agility, and speed drills on the playing field.

OVERVIEW
UNCP's strength and conditioning boasts some of the best facilities in the nation at the NCAA Division II level. The Bob Caton Fieldhouse is home to a 3,000 square-foot weight room that has seven power stations and more than 20,000 pounds of free weights. The English E. Jones Center houses a 2,000 square-foot weight room with six power stations and a separate speed and agility room for use by athletes only. UNCP has a full time head strength and conditioning coach as well as a full time graduate assistant coach and three interns.
