David Synan

Pos.: Head Coach

Alma Mater:High Point, 2003

E-mail: david.synan@uncp.edu

Office Phone: (910) 775-4113

David Synan took the reigns of the UNC Pembroke golf program in June of 2005. He joined the Braves after serving as assistant coach for two seasons at his alma mater, High Point University.

With two years of valuable coaching experience at the Division I level, Synan looks to be a good fit for a Brave program that made its second national tournament appearance this past season and is losing only two seniors. He is excited to join the UNCP family as a first-year head coach.

“I am honored that the University has given me this opportunity,” said Synan. “I look forward to building a golf program at UNCP that is solid both academically and competitively.”

Synan is no stranger to Pembroke having graduated from nearby Scotland High School in Laurinburg, NC. After a stellar prep career with the Fighting Scots, he lettered in golf for one season at Georgia Southern University before transferring to High Point.

Synan was a key member of HPU’s golf squad for three seasons, having served as the Panthers’ team captain and garnering All-Big South honors. Additionally, he was a three-time Millis Scholar-Athlete, as well as being honored as a member of the Big South Conference’s Presidential Honor Roll and HPU’s Dean’s List.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management in 2003, Synan remained at HPU to complete his Master of Science degree in Sport Studies this past May. Also in 2005, he was inducted into the Phi Epsilon Kappa Professional Fraternity.

His coaching and playing experience have left Synan proficient in the structuring of team practices, statistical work, tournament preparation, and travel organization.

Added Synan, “I am confident that we’ll be competitive next year. We’ve got six good guys coming back, along with five to six solid freshmen. My first order of business will be setting up our fall tournament schedule.”

In addition to his coaching duties, Synan will serve as a lecturer in UNCP’s Health, Physical Education, and Recreation department.

Brandon Miller

Pos.: Assistant Coach

Alma Mater:Florida Tech, 2008

E-mail: bm0017@bravemail.uncp.edu

Office Phone: (910) 775-4113

Brandon Miller enters his first season as an assistant coach with the UNCP golf program under head coach David Synan after completing a successful playing career at Florida Tech. Miller also served as a student assistant coach with the Panthers during the 2007-08 season.

During that season the Panthers finished second in the Sunshine State Conference’s final standings while also sending two players to the SSC All-Tournament Team. Anthony Klingensmith won the conference tournament and David D’Agostino finished tied for fourth under the direction of Miller and head coach Pat Cappola.

While at Florida Tech, Miller was a four-year member of the Panthers’ golf team. Miller’s best tournament finish came during his freshman campaign when he shot a total of 226 (81, 74, 71) over three rounds to tie for 18th at the 2005 Cat Classic.

During his final semester in Melbourne, Miller worked as an intern with Cumulus Broadcasting, assisting the general sales manager with the management functions of the sales and marketing department.

Miller earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 2008 and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in sports administration from UNC Pembroke.
