Embarking on his 15th year in the athletic media relations field, Todd Anderson begins his seventh season at the helm of the UNC Pembroke athletic media relations department. He was hired as the school’s sports information director in 2006, but was promoted to assistant athletic director for media relations prior to the start of the 2011-12 academic year.

While he oversees the athletic media relations efforts for all of UNCP’s 16 varsity athletic teams, Anderson handles the day-to-day responsibilities for the football, wrestling, men’s basketball and baseball programs for the Braves. He also serves on several committees, including the Integrated Marketing (Licensing) Committee.

“UNCP is excited to have Todd Anderson join our athletic family,” said UNCP athletic director Dan Kenney. “Our search was focused on hiring a young leader who possesses all the necessary skills that today's sports information director needs to have.”

Prior to accepting his current position, Anderson served nine years in the athletic media relations departments at two Southeastern Conference (NCAA Division I) schools - first as a student assistant/intern at Alabama and then as an assistant athletic media relations director at Mississippi State. He was charged with the day-to-day athletic media relations responsibilities for both the nationally-ranked women’s soccer and softball programs for both the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs. He also assisted in the game day operations for the football, baseball and basketball programs at both institutions as well.

The recipient of six national publications awards for his media and recruiting guides at both Alabama and Mississippi State, including two “Best In The Nation” laurels, Anderson also has experience serving as the official scorer for six SEC Women’s Soccer Tournaments, as well as three NCAA Softball regional tournaments. He also served a two-year stint as the coordinator for CoSIDA’s publications and poster contests, as well as a designated role on both CoSIDA’s Olympic sports and membership committees.

A sports reporter and editor for the student newspaper at Alabama, The Crimson White, Anderson has considerable writing experience, including correspondent work for ESPN.com, Collegiate Sports Partners and The Birmingham News. He continues to build on his sports writing skills in Pembroke as a prep football correspondent for both The Robesonian (Lumberton, N.C.) and The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer. He was the recipient of two awards during his time with The Crimson White – the 1995 Most Improved Sports Staff Member and the 1996 Most Valuable Sports Staff Member.

Anderson earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Alabama in 1998 and is currently working on his master’s degree in physical education at UNCP. Anderson, along with his dachshund, Kaiser, currently reside in Lumberton.
