
Having wrapped up his running career for the Braves, Kevin
Clancy makes his transition to the coaching world in 2012 as an
assistant coach for the men’s and women’s cross country
teams as well as for the men’s and women’s track and
field teams.
Clancy, a South Hill, Wash., native, ran for four years as a part
of the cross country and track and field teams at UNC Pembroke
while obtaining his degree. He wrapped up his education in exercise
and sport science in December of 2011. Before becoming an assistant
coach, he was a two year volunteer coach for the Federal Way Track
Club which included implementing workouts and management during
track meets.
During his time and an undergrad, he ran his personal best in the
8K at the Augusta State Tri-Meet his junior year and his personal
record in the 10K at the NCAA II Southeast Region Championships in
his senior campaign. Along with his accomplishments on the cross
country course, he totaled new personal bests in every event he
competed in during his senior track and field season including in
the 800m and 1500m runs. Clancy was selected to the Men’s
Cross Country Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference in 2010 and was
a four-time letterwinner for UNCP athletics.
He was not only dedicated to his sport, but to his education which
earned him numerous awards. He garnered a spot on the PBC
Presidential Honor Roll, the Division II Cross Country All-Academic
Team, and the PBC All-Academic Team for three-consecutive years. In
2010, he was awarded UNCP’s Outstanding Male Scholar award as
well as to the UNCP Chancellor’s Academic List for three
years running. In his final year of competition at UNCP, he was
named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, and was awarded the
UNCP Cross Country Coach’s Award, Braves Club Academic Award
and a two-time winner of the UNCP Chancellors Academic Award.
He is USA Track and Field Level 1 Coaching certified as of
December 2010 and attended the 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum
held in the summer of 2011. He is a member of USA Track and Field
as well as Alpha Chi Honor Society. He is the son of Mike and Nina
Clancy and currently resides in Pembroke.
