The UNCP athletic department’s inaugural Cash Bash presented by Southeastern Health was a resounding success as the event generated more than $35,000 for student-athlete scholarships and programs, while also generating a night full of highlights.

Reverse Raffle A Big Success For UNCP Athletics
Traci Priest improved her chances by purchasing the 250th ball for $2,800 and walked away with a 2008 Ford Focus to culminate the highly successful first annual Reverse Raffle held by the UNCP athletic department. The event raised more than $16,000 for athletic scholarships and was attended by more than 200 spectators in the English E. Jones Center.

Student-athletes and coaches, in conjunction with UNCPs Student Athlete Advisory Council and the Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, have made the latest Cookie Walk toy drive a success by donating more than 100 toys to the cause that will distribute gifts to children in the Pembroke/Robeson County community over the Christmas holidays.

Gene Warren, who served on the athletic department staff at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, has passed away. Warren served as the Universitys first-ever sports information director in the mid-1960s until his retirement in 1978.

Fred Locklear, a member of the first football team at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the late 1940s, has passed away. A celebration of life for Mr. Locklear, 86, was held on Sunday in Lumbertons Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

UNCP, Penn Atlantic To Begin Free Video Streaming
The University of North Carolina athletic department and its internet broadcasting partner Penn Atlantic have announced that beginning with games played on Monday, Feb. 2., all UNCP games will be available for free. Prior to this, games had been available on a pay-per-view basis but continued expansion at Penn Atlantic will allow all games to be viewed for free with revenues generated from advertising.

Flagler, Montevallo Join Peach Belt Conference
The Peach Belt Conference is pleased to announce that the University of Montevallo and Flagler College have been accepted for membership in the league. The PBC board of directors, comprised of the presidents of the 11 league members, voted unanimously to accept both schools and expand the league to 13 teams.
