UNCP Sends 113 Student-Athletes To PBC Honor Roll
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Weeks removed from
capturing its second-straight Peach Belt Conference
President’s Academic Award, UNCP sent 113 of its
student-athletes to the PBC Honor Roll which was released on Friday
morning by the league office in Augusta, Ga.
Fifteen of UNCP’s 16 varsity athletic teams sent multiple
representatives to the distinguished honor, with baseball leading
the way with 16 student-athletes on the squad. The women’s
soccer team had 13 of its athletes grace the distinguished list,
with the football and softball teams sending 10 athletes apiece to
the laurel. The announcement marked the second-straight year that
UNCP reached the century mark with its honorees, including last
season’s school record 122 athletes that were decorated with
the honor.
A total of 33 Braves grabbed Gold Scholar honors after posting
3.75 grade point averages or better, while 25 others maintained
GPA’s of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to take home Silver
Scholar nods. Seven of UNCP’s 12 PBC-sponsored teams (does
not include men’s & women’s track &field,
football, wrestling) posted team grade point averages of 3.0 or
better during the 2010-11 academic year. The women’s cross
country team registered an athletic department-best 3.433 GPA,
narrowly edging out women’s soccer’s 3.423 GPA.
