Williamson, Davis Named To Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Squad

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – UNCP softball player Anna Williamson and all-American wrestler J.J. Davis were decorated with a prestigious postseason honor Tuesday afternoon as both were named to one of two Peach Belt Conference all-sportsmanship teams, the league office announced.

Each PBC member institution selected their own representative to appear on the team on criteria set by each school. However, each student-athlete on the all-sportsmanship team has demonstrated consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in his or her daily participation in PBC athletics and good citizenship outside of their sports setting.

Each member of the all-sportsmanship team will receive a certificate from the Peach Belt Conference at a later date.

One of just three players to start all 60 games for the PBC regular season champion UNCP softball team, Williamson hit .267 with 11 doubles, 24 RBI and 26 runs scored and struck out just seven times in 176 total at-bats on the season. A mainstay in the infield, she started 44 games at second base and 16 more at the hot corner after an injury forced the issue. Williamson tallied eight multiple-hit and six multiple-RBI games for the Braves as well this season.

Davis, one of two (Joe Mavins) UNCP wrestlers to qualify for the national tournament this past season, reeled off a 35-9 record this season, while logging a runner-up finish at the NCAA East Regional in March, as well as third place finishes at both the Pembroke Classic and Davidson Open earlier in the season. He was awarded all-American status after a sixth place finish at the national championships – a run that included day-one defeats of the country’s No. 1- and No. 6-ranked wrestlers in the 165-pound weight class.
