Former Baseball Letterwinner Passes Away

PEMBROKE – Tecumseh Brayboy, a 4-year letterwinner on UNCP’s baseball team in the early 1960s and a member of UNCP’s Athletic Hall of Fame, passed away in Warren County on Wednesday evening.

Brayboy, a 1964 graduate of UNCP, was a standout catcher for the Braves, recording an impressive .985 career fielding percentage, as well as an impressive .384 batting average as a junior. He was officially inducted into UNCP’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 21, 2004. He was also a donor to the Tecumseh and Eva Brayboy Scholarship originally created in honor of his parents.

Tecumseh Brayboy is survived by wife, Barbara; daughters, Natalie, Jennifer Locklear and Heather Hedgepeth; mother, Eva; siblings, Elaine Haraway, Barbara Locklear, Bobby, Isaac and Larry; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for Brayboy will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
