Car Cash Bash Raises Scholarship Funds, Promotes UNCP athletics

PEMBROKE – The second annual Braves Club Car Cash Bash presented by Southeastern Regional Medical Center raised more than $34,000 to benefit the scholarship and programs of UNCP student-athletes on April 4 in the English E. Jones Center.

Nearly 250 guests took part in the evening which included a silent auction reception, 50/50 raffle, catered dinner, live auction and the Grand Prize drawing for a Ford Focus or $8,500. In addition to the festivities, the attendees got to meet and speak with UNCP student-athletes throughout the evening.

The evening began with a silent auction reception featuring over 70 items such as an autographed basketball from John Calipari – the head coach of the men’s NCAA Division I basketball national champion Kentucky Wildcats – golf and tennis lessons from UNCP coaches, Givens Performing Arts Center tickets, plenty of Braves sports’ memorabilia and much more.

In addition to the silent auction winners, UNCP graduate Sammy Cox (’76) won the 50/50 raffle prize to which he donated to his scholarship endowment, the Sammy Cox Baseball Endowed Scholarship.

Following the silent auction and a delicious buffet dinner prepared by Sodexo catering services, the live auction conducted by Earl Bullard of B&W Auctions in Dillon, S.C., took center stage. The auction items included dinner at the UNCP Chancellor’s residence, UNCP-themed Corn Hole boards, and even an aerial tour of Robeson County.

The event finale was the grand prize drawing for a Ford Focus or $8,500. Anticipation was at a fever pitch as the winning ticket was drawn by members of the UNCP volleyball team. The lucky winner of the grand prize was Pembroke True Value Hardware. The Locklear Family, owners of Pembroke True Value Hardware, opted to receive the Ford Focus courtesy of Lumberton Ford Lincoln.

The Braves Club would like to thank our presenting sponsor, Southeastern Regional Medical Center, for their generous support of this event.
