Haley Grabs PBC Freshman Of The Week Laurels

AUGUSTA, Ga. - After playing a key role in a bevy of success for UNCP last week, Fayetteville native Josh Haley has been named this week's Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Haley, a Pinecrest High School product, hit .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, one RBI and four runs scored across four starts for the Braves last week, aiding UNCP to a perfect 4-0 week including an 11-7 home upset victory over 21st-ranked Lenoir Rhyne, as well as a three-game sweep at Georgia Southwestern - UNCP's first PBC series victory of the season.

He also tallied a .563 on-base percentage, a .615 slugging percentatage and did not commit an error in 10 total defensive chances from his right field position.

Haley began his stellar week by doubling and scoring twice on a 1-for-3 outing in an 11-7 upset win over the nationally ranked Bears, and then recorded a .500 (5-for-10) series at Georgia Southwestern with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. He also registered a sac hit and stolen base against the Hurricanes.

Haley and the Braves will play two midweek home games against Chowan on Tuesday (6 p.m.) and Wednesday (3 p.m.) before hitting the road again on Friday and Saturday for a pivotal league series at PBC rival Lander.
