Brown Inks Free Agent Contract With Royals
KANSAS CITY – Former UNCP lefthander Rudy Brown – a
middle reliever who proved instrumental to the success of the
Braves baseball program over the last two years – has signed
a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals, the Major League
Baseball organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Brown, a Salisbury native and former Surry Community College
standout, compiled a 7-5 record, a 4.00 earned run average and a
pair of saves in two seasons in Pembroke. He put an exclamation
point on his short stay with the Braves this past season,
registering a 4-3 mark with a 2.85 ERA as UNCP's primary
set-up man, striking out 53 batters and walking just 15 in 41
innings of work.
Brown will join a host of other prospects at the Royals'
training camp in Arizona. Following the evaluation process, he will
be assigned to a team in Kansas City's minor league
system.
