Haley, Lewis Named To All-PBC Squad

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The UNCP baseball team continued to rake in the postseason hardware on Tuesday evening as seniors Josh Haley and Braxton Lewis were among 33 student-athletes lauded with All-Peach Belt Conference honors in Columbus, Ga. – the site of the 2012 PBC Baseball Championships.

The announcement marked the fifth-straight year that the Braves have been represented on the all-conference team and the fourth time in that span that UNCP has had multiple representatives. The honor marked the second-straight all-conference nod for both players. It also marked the third time since 2007 that a Black & Gold relief pitcher has achieved first team status.

Haley, a Jackson Springs product, started all 49 games and led the Braves with a .391 (77-for-197) batting average to go along with 19 extra-base hits (3 HR), 16 RBI and a team-best 61 runs scored. A force on the base paths, the senior ranked second in the PBC with 34 stolen bases (39 attempts) and also booked a .523 slugging percentage and a .474 on-base percentage. Defensively, he was solid from his starting centerfield position as well where he turned in a .985 fielding percentage. He concluded the season with a team-leading 24 multiple-hit games and a trio of multiple-RBI outings.

Lewis, a Seven Springs product, made a team-best 27 appearances for UNCP and recorded a 1-2 record, a 2.25 ERA and matched a school record with a PBC-leading 11 saves (13 opportunities). He struck out 38 batters and walked just seven in 32 innings of work, while also holding opponents to a .248 batting average. Lewis allowed just one run on two hits through his first seven innings of work this season and closed out the campaign by not allowing an earned run over his last 20 innings (14 appearances) from the hill. Nearly half (5) of his saves came against league competition.
