Haley Named To NCCSIA All-State Squad

HICKORY – Senior outfielder Josh  Haley added another award to his shed full of hardware on Thursday afternoon as the Jackson Springs native was one of a dozen players named to the 2012 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State College Division Baseball Team.

Haley nabbed the honor for the second-straight year and gave UNCP a representative on the squad for the fifth-straight season. Nominees for the team are submitted by and voted upon by North Carolina sports information professionals.

Haley started all 49 games and led the Braves with a .391 (77-for-197) batting average to go along with 19 extra-base hits (3 HR), 16 RBI and a team-best 61 runs scored. A force on the base paths, the senior ranked second in the PBC with 34 stolen bases (39 attempts) and also booked a .523 slugging percentage and a .474 on-base percentage. Defensively, he was solid from his starting centerfield position as well where he turned in a .985 fielding percentage. He has collected a slew of awards this offseason including Capital One Academic All-America, as well as all-region laurels from Daktronics, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). He was also a first team all-Peach Belt Conference selection as well.
