Braves To Battle Charlotte In 2013
PEMBROKE – UNCP will make the short trek to Charlotte in mid-October of the 2013 college football season, as well as the inaugural season of 49ers football, as part of a one-year contract signed by both institutions. The game will be played on Oct. 12, 2013, with a time yet to be announced.
Charlotte will embark on its initial season of intercollegiate football in 2013, having just recently hired former Wake Forest defensive coordinator Brad Lambert as its first head football coach. The 49ers broke ground on its new 15,000-seat stadium in late April.
The meeting will mark the first meeting since 1946 between the football teams at the two University of North Carolina-system schools. The then-Charlotte Center of the University of North Carolina defeated then-Pembroke State en route to a 2-4 record that season.
