Football’s Charles Named UNCP Student-Athlete Of The Week
PEMBROKE – After posting school-record numbers for the second-straight week in UNCP's 58-38 Homecoming victory over Tusculum on Saturday, sophomore quarterback Luke Charles has been named this week's UNCP Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.
Charles, a Murphy native, broke his own week-old school record by throwing for 367 yards and four touchdowns on 20-of-32 passing with no interceptions. Averaging better than 18 yards per completion (18.7), Charles eclipsed his own school record (362 yards) set seven days earlier in a loss at Catawba. His performance on Saturday included touchdown passes of 53, 7, 49 and 54 yards. He finished 9-of-13 for 172 yards and three touchdowns in the second half alone.
In nine career games for the Black & Gold, Charles has thrown for 1,924 yards on 135-of-235 (.574) passing with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He currently sits atop UNCP's all-time list for average passing yards per game (213.8) and is tied atop the program's all-time list for passer efficiency rating (141.0) with predecessor Cory Smith.
In this week's edition of the NCAA Football Statistics report, Charles ranks 15th nationally in total offense (284.67 yards/game) and 18th nationally with a 151.9 passer efficiency rating.
