Beyond Sports Network Skype Interview With Linebacker Fred Williams
PEMBROKE – Senior linebacker Fred Williams took his turn on the national stage on Monday afternoon as part of Beyond Sports Network's continuing website feature, "Beyond The Sidelines."
Williams spent the better part of 22 minutes answering questions and chatting with BSN Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Kibble, as well as BSN staffer Kerry Gibbs. The interview covered topics such as what being named a BSN All-American meant to Williams, as well as what gets the defense motivated on game day.
An 11-game starter at middle linebacker last season, Williams set a new school record with 113 tackles (61 solo), including 6-1/2 tackles for loss (3 sacks) and seven pass break-ups. He also both forced and recovered a fumble for the Braves as well. Williams turned in double-digit tackle totals against six different opponents, including finishing just one stop off the single-game school record after making 18 tackles in the overtime loss to Wingate. He also recorded at least one pass break-up in four games, while registering a pair of sacks in the season finale against West Liberty.
His efforts not only led to the first all-American honors of Williams' career, but also set the stage for a preseason all-American nod from BSN in late June.
The Braves will lift the lid on their 2012 campaign on September 1 when they travel to Winston-Salem State for a 1:30 p.m. contest at Bowman-Gray Stadium.
