Braves Release 2011-12 Schedule

PEMBROKE – UNCP Pembroke head men's basketball coach Ben Miller announced his team's schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday, and a total of 28 regular-season games will be played during the 2011-12 campaign.

Prior to the 28-game schedule, the Braves will play a pair of exhibition contests against UNC Chapel Hill on Friday, October 28th at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. UNCP will also take on Athletes in Action in a tune-up on Nov. 3 before opening their regular season with a matchup against St. Andrews on Nov. 11. The Braves will also face NCAA Division I UNC Greensboro on Thursday, Nov. 17 in a regular season game in Greensboro.

"We are all looking forward to a challenging schedule for 2011-12," said Miller. "The Peach Belt Conference is so competitive every year and we tried to put together a non conference schedule that would prepare our team. Our fans will obviously be excited about the exhibition game against the Tar Heels, and the rest of our non conference schedule is full of tough opponents and region rivals."

Of UNCP's 18 conference games, nine will be at home and nine will be on the road. The squad will open their conference schedule on Dec. 3 when they host the Lander Bearcats at the English E. Jones Center in Pembroke.

UNCP will also take on regional opponents St. Andrews, Coker, and Wingate in non conference matchups with the matchups against the Knights and the Cobras being at the UNCP Holiday Classic which will be hosted by UNCP this season on Nov. 11-12. That will serve as the Braves' lone tournament action prior to any postseason play.

UNCP finished last season with a 18-12 overall record, including a 9-9 mark in the PBC, en route to its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The squad returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad and has brought in five newcomers to add depth to the roster.
