Three new Braves join UNCP Golf squad

PEMBROKE – A season after finishing fifth at the Peach Belt Conference golf championships, UNCP Head Coach David Synan has added more players to his arsenal for the 2010-2011 campaign.  Joining the Braves will be Lewis Adams (Lilesville, N.C.), Michael Mullman (Charlotte, N.C.) and Scott Colley (Holly Springs, N.C.).

Adams comes to UNCP after earning four letters in golf as a prep at Anson High School in Wadesboro, N.C.  Adams earned medalist honors in three matches as a senior while earning his team MVP award four times and being named all-conference all four years.  He won the 2009 CPGA Westfield Junior Golf Tournament with a two-round score of 143 (73-70) and held a 37.6 stroke average as a senior.  Lewis also finished in a tie for fifth at the 2009 Dogwood State Junior Championship with three-round scores of 75-73-71.  At the 2007 Carolinas Junior PGA Championship, he totaled a three-round total of 233 (80-71-72) and he holds Anson High School records for nine-hole scoring round (30) and number of rounds under par in one season (five of nine).  Adams also finished his high school career with a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and plans to major in business management at UNCP.

Coach Synan on Adams: "I am very excited that Lewis will be joining us this fall.  He has a fundamentally sound game that has not reached its potential.  With hard work, Lewis should battle for playing time this coming year."

Michael Mullman comes to Pembroke after earning three golf letters as a prep at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte.  He finished fourth in the conference standings individually as a senior and helped lead the Mavericks to their first-ever trip to the regional tournament, earning all-conference accolades in the process.  As a junior at John T. Haggard High School in Wilmington, he finished first in the conference standings individually and was named Mideastern Conference Player of the Year after leading the Vikings to a conference title.   He earned a second-place finish at the 2009 NJGC Winter Classic with scores of 74-76 in his two rounds, and also finished tied for 34th at the 2009 Donald Ross Junior Championship with two-round scores of 79-74.  At the 2009 Carmel Junior Invite Mullman carded a two-round total of 147 (70-77) to finish in a tie for ninth.  He also finished tied for 23rd at the 2009 North and South Junior Championship with three-round scores of 74-71-76.  He finished tied for 12th at the 2009 Beth Daniel Junior Azalea with matching two-round scores of 73 and also earned a 15th place finish at the 2009 Carolinas Junior PGA Championship with three-round totals of 72-74-79. Mullman was an active member of FFA, DECA, Spanish Club, Beta Club, and was also a member of the National Honor Society.  He finished his high school career with a 4.37 GPA.

Coach Synan on Mullman: "Michael will be a strong addition to our golf family at UNCP.  He is the kind of person we look for with high character, a solid academic background and a tireless work ethic.  I expect Michael to fit in well."

Scott Colley comes to UNCP after two years at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh.  The Holly Springs native earned NJCAA All-American honors in 2010 after being named NJCAA Region X Player of the Year in 2009.  He finished tied for sixth at the NJCAA National Championships with a three-round total of 215 (68-76-71) and he won the 2010 Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Invitational with a two-round total of 147 (73-74).  He placed in a tie for 20th at the North Carolina Amateur Championship with four-round scores of 73-67-73-76.

Coach Synan on Colley: "Scott is a little bit older than the other recruits.  With this he does bring more tournament experience to the team that can only help us get better."

The UNCP Golf team enters 2010-2011 after finishing fifth at the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Championships.  The Braves return two-time all-american and 2010 PBC Championship medalist Jordan Walor for his junior season in the fall.
