McCurry Named To PING All-Southeast Region Squad
NORMAN, Okla. – Following a season in which he helped lead the UNCP men's golf team to an appearance in the NCAA postseason, junior Jonathan McCurry was among 13 players named to the Division II Golf Coaches Association of America/PING All-Southeast Region team on Thursday morning.
McCurry, a Sanford native, joined six other Peach Belt Conference golfers on the squad which included much of the first team all-PBC listing. A total of 104 players across eight regions - East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2011.
A first team all-PBC and all-PBC tournament selection, McCurry competed in all 11 events for the Braves on the season, recording five top-5 finishes, including a second place laurel at the Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview. He also finished in a tie for fourth at the PBC Championships and in a tie for fifth at the NCAA Southeast Regional. His 73.9 stroke average across 26 rounds of golf ranked as the fifth-lowest stroke average in the PBC.
McCurry has registered a 74.5 career stroke average in three seasons in Pembroke and has tallied 17 finishes inside the top 25, including 10 tournaments in which he finished among the top-10 golfers. He posted career bests across the board in 2010-11, including nine top-25 finishes and six top-10 finishes.
