BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Just less than 24 hours removed from capturing its first team championship of the season at the Clayton State-hosted Laker Collegiate Invitational, the UNCP men's golf team leapt two spots to No. 13 in the latest head-to-head computer rankings by Golfstat.com, it was announced.
Having made their first appearance in the rankings just a month ago at No. 22, UNCP has spent each of the last three weeks at No. 15 on the website. The Braves finished first out of nine teams at the three-round Laker Collegiate Invitational which was at the par-72, 7,202-yard Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club in Hampton, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. The event closed out the fall portion of the 2011-12 scheduled for the Black & Gold.
Senior Jordan Walor leads the Peach Belt Conference with a 71.0 stroke average through 10 rounds of competition while fellow senior Jonathan McCurry is currently 10th in the league with a 73.2 average. Both athletes have earned all-American status during their respective careers, with Walor garnering honors in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and McCurry doing the same last season. The Braves, as a squad, lead the league in scoring average with a 289.7 which is nearly three strokes better than the second-best squad, USC Aiken (292.9).
UNCP will continue its 2011-12 season in early February.
