Walor Captures Title At 4th Carolinas Young Amateur Championship

PINEHURST – UNCP senior Jordan Walor fought windy and cold conditions to shoot an even-par 144 over two rounds en route to championship honors at the 4th Carolinas Young Amateur Championship on Tuesday afternoon on the 7,276-yard, par-72 Magnolia Course at the Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst.

Walor (71-73/144) edged Wingate junior Clifford Blanquicet (73-73/146) by two strokes to capture the honor, UNC Chapel Hill sophomore James Ellis (71-76/147) finished third, Virginia Tech freshman Trevor Cone (73-75/148) finished fourth and Davidson senior Jackson Taylor (72-77/149) rounded out the top five. North Carolina Amateur and North Carolina Match Play champion Harold Varner III (75-77/152) concluded the event in ninth place. UNCP seniors Carson Lanier (76-80/156) and Jonathan McCurry (79-84/163) finished tied for 20th and tied for 53rd, respectively.

This annual championship is open to amateur ages 18 to 24 that have finished high school and is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
