McCurry’s Record Round Has UNCP Atop Field At Magnolia Collegiate

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Senior all-American Jonathan McCurry carded a school-record-tying and course-record round of 63 to help No. 9 UNCP to a tournament-best round of 282 and a 9-stroke lead after the second round of the Magnolia Collegiate Invitational on Monday at the par-71, 6,843-yard Orangeburg Country Club.

McCurry (74-63/137) turned in 10 birdies and a pair of bogeys in matching the 18-year-old school record set by former UNCP standout Erick Wyatt at the 1994 Mount Olive Invitational. He holds a two-stroke lead over both West Georgia's Bryn Powers (70-70/140) and teammate Jordan Walor (72-68) who matched a season-best with a second-round 68. Carson Lanier (73-75/148) is in a tie for 16th, while Michael Mullmann (73-76/149) and Scott Lambert (75-76/151) are tied for tied for 20th and tied for 26th, respectively.

The Braves (292-282/574) hold a nine-stroke lead over the rest of the nine-team field heading into Tuesday's final round. No. 25 Barton (295-288/583) is in second place, while 17th-ranked USC Aiken (297-292/589) is 15 strokes off the pace in third place. Tournament-host and 33rd-ranked Newberry (295-296/591) is in fourth place, while PBC foes Lander (304-303/607) and Clayton State (307-303/610) are in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
