PEMBROKE – The good news continued to roll in for the UNCP men's golf team on Friday as the Braves found themselves atop the initial NCAA Southeast Region rankings released by the organization.
The Peach Belt Conference dominated the initial ranking as the first four spots in the poll, and six overall spots, belong to league schools. UNCP is first, but the Braves are followed by No. 2 USC Aiken, No. 3 Georgia College and No. 4 Georgia Southwestern. Armstrong Atlantic (No. 7) and Columbus State (No. 9) are included in the poll as well.
South Atlantic Conference teams took care of three of the final four spots in the poll. Carson-Newman is fifth, Wingate is sixth and Lincoln Memorial is 10th. Barton, out of Conference Carolinas, is listed in eighth place.
The Braves will learn their postseason fate on April 27 at 4 p.m. when the entire NCAA Tournament field is announced on NCAA.com. The 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional is slated to be held, May 7-9, at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover.
