Montevallo Ends UNCP’s Run For PBC Tournament Title, 1-0

EVANS, Ga. – Montevallo's Phil Jackson halted the UNCP men's soccer team from advancing in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Friday evening as the midfielder used a penalty kick to position the ball in the back of the net for the lone goal and the 1-0 victory over the Braves at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

Jackson's goal came in the 47th minute which UNCP (11-4-2) was unable to recover from despite outshooting the Falcons (11-3-4) 12-9 including the UNCP defense denying Montevallo any shots in the first half. The match tested the strength and physical ability as the teams combined for 28 fouls.

Leading the Braves on the field was junior Sean Hoek with four shots, two of which were on goal, while Freshman of the Year Sam Miles added two.

UNCP posted thee of the nine shots in the second half with less than five minutes left to play in desperation to attempt a tie. UNCP posted three saves including two by goalkeeper Ryan Hanson in his 90 minutes of action in goal.

The Braves' backfield rejected five shots by Shane Howard and two by Tyson Eyo, but was unable to defend the goal on the penalty kick. Falcon's netminder Brendan Ledgeway totaled five saves, while the team grabbed one.

UNCP and Montevallo played a scoreless and physical first half as the teams combined for 18 fouls with UNCP committing nine.

The Black and Gold have posted the fourth-best finish in the last 20 years with 11 wins since joining the PBC, and the first time in the Phil Hindson ear as he has more than doubled his number of wins since last season.

The Braves, which were ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Southeast Region poll, will await the next region ranking on Tuesday and again for the NCAA Selection Show to learn if they will continue on in the 48-team NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
