4x100 Places 11th, Eubanks 13th At NCAA Championships

CHARLOTTE  – The first day of the NCAA Division II Championships kicked off on the campus of Johnson C. Smith Thursday afternoon and are set to continue through Saturday. Among the athletes who competed in the day's events were UNCP's 4x100m relay and Maurice Eubanks in the 100m dash.

Starting off competition for the Braves was the men's 4x100m relay team in the preliminary heat.

The relay team of Brandon Eaddy, Karlos Jordan, Tyrie Webb and Eubanks finished 11th out of 12 relay squads with a time of 41.57. UNCP's relay squad was seeded to place 12th in the event with their qualifying time of 41.02. Because the relay did not place in the top-8 of its preliminary heat, they will not be competing in the finals held on Saturday.

The 4x100m relay qualified on April 17 at the Charlotte Invitational with a time of 41.02 and sat 12th of 12 accepted relay teams in the event. The relay team of Eaddy, Jordan, Webb and Eubanks had run the event in various orders, placing in the top-5 in four of five outings.

Competing in the 100m dash, Eubanks placed sixth in heat No. 2 (13th overall) in the preliminary round
with a time of 10.60. Eubanks' time did not qualify the junior for Saturday's finals.

Eubanks, a Siler City native, came into the event ranked 13th of 20 accepted athletes with a time of 10.51 which he earned at the Charlotte Invitational in April. This season, while running the 100m event, the junior finished top-5 in eight of 10 meets. He was also invited to compete against some of the nation's best track & field athletes at the Penn Relays that are held in Philadelphia, Pa., annually since 1895.

The Braves will be represented at the NCAA Championships again on Friday evening when Jordan competes in the preliminaries of the 200m dash in Charlotte. Should he post a qualifying time in the heats, the Jacksonville native will compete again in Saturday's finals.
