Ray Provisionally Qualifies In 200m Dash At Wofford College Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman sprinter Shaquille Ray provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships with a first place finish in the 200m dash to highlight the performances of the UNCP men's track and field team in the only day of competition at the Wofford College Terrier Relays.

Ray crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 21.42 seconds in the race, while Jon Williams posted a season best time of 21.92 seconds for a second place finish. Donta' Allen, Jameel Joyner, D'Andre Weaver and Devan Cureton finished fourth, fifth, seventh and 10th, respectively. Ray grabbed a second place finish in the 100m dash with a personal best time of 10.80 seconds.

In the 5000m run, Zach Bayless ran a season best time of 16.09.21 seconds for a third place finish as Jeremy Judd grabbed an eighth place finish with a personal best time of 16:37.47.

Senior AJ Davis Jr. collected a first place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.39m, a fourth place in the discus throw with a throw of 40.83m and a seventh place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.60m. Freshman Eric Upchurch finished sixth in the shot put (12.86m), sixth in the discus throw (39.22m) and sixth in the hammer throw (39.04m).

For the first time this season, the 4x100m relay and 4x800m relay teams competed as the 4x100m relay team posted a first place finish with a time of 41.55 seconds, while the 4x800m relay team finished fifth with a time of 8:35.62. The 4x400m relay team posted a season best time of 3:26.26 for a fourth place finish.

The men's track and field team will continue competition on Friday when the Braves travel to Charlotte to compete in the Johnson C. Smith Invitational.
