Braves Place Third At Peach Belt Conference Championships
LUMBERTON – Freshman Pardon Ndhlovu paced his UNCP teammates to a third place team finish at the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships, while also picking up a second place individual finish and PBC Freshman of the Year honors Saturday morning at Luther Britt Park.
Ndhlovu ran a 24:57.00 8K in his final race on UNCP’s home course this season to qualify him as a member of the PBC’s all-conference first team. En route to his second place finish, Ndhlovu outran third place Nicholas Kerring of Columbus State (25:44.12) and also out-paced PBC co-Runner of the Year Fidelis Mutisto of Clayton State (4th, 26:23.76) by more than a minute and a half. The other PBC co-Runner of the Year, Meshack Koyiaki of Columbus State, ran a time of 24:38.02 to take first.
Coming in second for the Black and Gold was sophomore Zachary Bayless with a time of 27:19.87 to take 12th place overall. Rounding out the top 20 for UNCP were Christian Wiscovitch, 18th in 27:54.54, and Kevin Clancy, 19th with 27:57.22.
For the fourth consecutive year, Columbus State’s men’s squad took home the PBC Championship title, tallying just 24 points by placing five of their seven runners in the top 10. Clayton State finished second behind the Cougars with 49 points and managed to place four runners in the top 20. UNCP rounded out the honors, taking third with 72 points, 65 points ahead of fourth place finisher North Georgia.
