AUGUSTA, Ga. -- UNCP's Martika Elmore has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Softball Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 17-23, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Elmore, a Fayetteville native and Pine Forest High School graduate, turned in a 2-0 record with a 0.58 ERA on the week, striking out 20 and walking just four in 12 innings of work (two complete games). Having faced 44 batters in her two outings, the newcomer allowed opponents just a .075 (3-for-40) batting average and surrendered just one run.
She began the week by registering UNCP's first individual no-hitter in more than three years, and the second this season in which she's been involved, in an 18-0 win over Glenville State. After yielding a pair of walks in the first inning, Elmore retired the final 13 batters (eight by strikeout) of the abbreviated contest against GSU and finished the outing with 10 strikeouts.
On Friday against Augusta State, Elmore had her second no-hit bid of the week broken up on a bunt single with one out in the sixth, but still managed to register her sixth double-digit strikeout game (10) of the season.
