Shaw Named PBC Player Of The Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – UNCP senior third baseman Jelena Shaw has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office, for her efforts on the diamond against Pfeiffer University on Thursday and league foe Georgia Southwestern on Sunday.

The Braves went 3-1 on the week, splitting a pair of game with Pfeiffer and then sweeping GSW in a doubleheader to open conference play.

Shaw, a native of Hope Mills, N.C., went 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate in four games driving in nine runs and scoring seven while launching three home runs and accounting for 16 total bases. She recorded a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an on base percentage of .643.

The senior started all four games at third base and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases. She also had a walk and a hit by pitch. She drove in the game winning run against Pfeiffer on a three-run homer in game one and then hit the game winning run in the first game against Georgia Southwestern with a solo shot in the first inning.

Defensively Shaw had a perfect fielding percentage, recording five assists and two putouts at the hot corner.

The Braves will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens University in a doubleheader set to begin at 5 p.m. Pembroke will then host Chowan University on Saturday at LRA Softball Field on the campus of UNCP. Admission to all UNCP softball games is free of charge.
