Patrick’s Blast Leads Lady Braves Past Pacers
PEMBROKE – A sixth-inning solo homer by senior Morgan Patrick accounted for the only run of the game while freshman hurler Natalie Klemann posted a three-hit shutout to lead the UNCP softball squad to a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over USC Aiken on Sunday afternoon at LRA Field in Pembroke.
The Lady Braves (11-8, 1-2 PBC) were held hitless by USC Aiken's (9-4, 2-1 PBC) freshman India Kornegay until Patrick's round-tripper over the left field wall, and the run was just the fifth given up by the Pacers' rookie in 41 innings pitched this season.
Klemann took the win to improve to 2-2 on the season after allowing just three hits in going the full seven innings for the victory.
Patrick's 1-for-3 effort led the team while sophomore Holly Berry accounted for the other UNCP hit with a single in the sixth inning.
