No. 23 Lady Pirates Top Lady Braves 11-1 In Five Innings

PEMBROKE – No. 23 Armstrong Atlantic used five runs in the top of the fifth inning to push past the UNCP softball team by an 11-1 score in five innings during the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.

The Lady Braves (18-19, 6-9 PBC) were limited to just one run and three hits by Armstrong Atlantic's (22-7, 7-4 PBC) duo of Megan Barnwell and Hillary Martin. Barnwell captured the win to improve to 5-4 on the year while UNCP's Starr Gilley was tabbed with the loss after three earned runs on three hits in one inning.

The Lady Braves' lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when senior shortstop Courtney Hill singled through the right side of the infield to bring freshman Schanique Barrett around to score from second.

Hill led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with an RBI while the other hit came from Barrett (1-for-3) on a single in the first inning.
