No. 13 North Georgia Manages Series Sweep Of UNCP

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Karlie Gillam sent her home run over the left field fence to score the final two runs for No. 13 North Georgia as the Saints completed the series sweep of the UNCP softball team with a 3-0 shutout victory in game two of the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

UNCP (14-29, 3-13 PBC) notched one hit apiece from Holly Berry and Morgan Davis. North Georgia (37-7, 11-3) collected seven hits as Pilar Harden led the team with three hits, while Gillam posted two RBI.

Starr Gilley (5-15) went all six innings for the Lady Braves and struck out six but awarded three earned runs. Melissa Dickie (14-0) pitched a complete game for the Saints, posted three strikeouts and gave up two hits.

The Saints began the first inning with a base hit to the short stop followed by three fielder's choices as the UNCP defense denied North Georgia the opportunity to score. Davis posted UNCP's first hit in the bottom of the third inning, but was caught stealing as Dickie retired three batters in the first three innings.

Gilley held the Saints scoreless until Kayla Minger singled up the middle to score the game-winning run as Taylor Anne Merritt singled up the middle to score Minger in the fifth. North Georgia added two runs in the sixth with the homer by Gillam. Berry attempted to start the momentum in the seventh with a single to the second baseman, but the Lady Braves struggled to score as the Saints finished the game with the three run lead.

The Black and Gold continue in PBC action on Saturday when Columbus State (31-17, 6-8) hosts the Lady Braves in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at CSU Softball Field.
