Hobbs Named To CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Team
PEMBROKE – After receiving Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team accolades, senior Kristen Hobbs garnered a spot on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District III Team as the only Lady Brave to grace the squad, the organization announced on Friday.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests are not eligible.
The honors marked the second time in the history of the softball program that UNCP has been represented on the squad, with the Danielle Peters collecting the honors in 2004.
Hobbs, a Granite Falls native, posted a 3.33 cumulative grade point average as an undergrad to land herself on the team. The physical education major led the team and was ninth in the conference with a .355 batting average. The senior played and started in all 47 games for the Lady Braves as was first on the team with a .392 on base percentage and second with a .464 slugging percentage. Hobbs saw 138 at-bats and is second on the squad with 17 RBI and 15 runs, 59 hits, 10 doubles, one triple and one homer. She had 15 multiple-hit games, three multiple-RBI games and an eight game hitting streak.
As a result of Hobbs' nomination to the CoSIDA first team, her statistics will advance to the national ballot where she will have an opportunity to be nominated for Capital One Academic All-American team. Only paying members of CoSIDA were able to vote at the district level and determine the first-team all-district selections. At the national level, only members of the Academic All-America committee and the CoSIDA board of directors will be able to vote to determine the Academic All-America teams.
The voting period for the national ballot begins on May 8 and will end on May 15. The academic All-America Team for softball will be released on May 23.
