Megan Brown enters her first year on the softball staff at UNC
Pembroke during the 2011-12 academic year.
A former standout pitcher for Florida Southern, Brown was a
three-time all-American and holds virtually every career pitching
record for the Moccasins. She tops the Florida Southern all-time
lists in wins (124), earned run average (0.69) and strikeouts
(997), and she is third all-time in NCAA Division II history in
wins, sixth in shutouts (58) and seventh in strikeouts. She was
named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year on three
occasions, and was named the league’s Female Scholar-Athlete
of the Year in 2007 after earning two academic all-American
distinctions.
In her senior season, she led the Moccasins to a 51-15 record en
route to a SSC championship as well as a South Region Championship
and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Softball
Championship. She posted a 34-10 record during her that season
while leading the conference with a 0.79 ERA and en route to
recording 37 complete games and 15 shutouts. During her four year
career, the Moccasins placed second, third and fourth
nationally.
Following her stellar collegiate career, Brown spent time with the
Michigan Ice and Rockford Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch
Softball League, earning a league championship with the Thunder in
2009.
She also pitched for Great Britain in the 2011 World Cup of
Softball in Oklahoma City, Okla. She threw a complete-game, four
hitter in Great Britain’s 3-2 win over the Czech Republic and
also started the fifth-place game in which her team took a 6-1
victory.
Prior to coming to UNCP she spent two years as a volunteer at
Auburn, the latter as a coach, and has also pitched for two years
in Italy.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from
Florida Southern in 2007 and a master’s degree in education
from Florida Southern in 2009. She is currently finishing her
doctorate degree in sports pedagogy at Auburn.
