Haskins Adds Washington To Recruiting Class
PEMBROKE – UNCP women's basketball coach John Haskins has announced the signing of Redlands, Ca., native Domonique Washington to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 academic year as the notable 5-6 guard declared her intentions to continue her player career with the Lady Braves squad.
“We are excited that Domonique has decided to join our basketball program,” Haskins said. “She is an experienced guard who can handle and distribute the ball, and though she has the ability to score, she looks first to set up her teammates. Domonique is also a very good defender and will be counted on to make an immediate impact in our program.”
Washington, a transfer from Mohawk Valley Community College, played under head coach Jason Carpenter and will enter UNCP with junior eligibility. This past season at MVCC, the Hawks were ranked nationally in the top five the entire season and were seeded second in the Region III Tournament. The Hawks were led by Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and first team all-region Washington who averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
At Redlands East Valley High School under coach Robert Tompkins, Washington averaged 14.0 points, 3.0 steals and 5.0 rebounds per game during her senior year with the Wildcats to put her name in the history books for the most points scored in a contest, most career points and most career steals while also being named a two-time MVP award recipient.
The daughter of Kevin Washington and Candace and Joseph Clark, Domonique has one brother, Calvin. Washington, a member of AVID during high school, plans on majoring in psychology at UNCP.
