John Haskins took over as as head coach of the women’s basketball program in March of 2004 and enters his eighth season as the women's basketball head coach. Haskins, who headed up the men’s program for 10 seasons, had served as head golf coach for two years prior. He also enters his seventh year as Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Affairs.

As assistant director of athletics, his duties include issuing contractual agreements, overseeing summer camps and special programming, staffing of home athletic events, serving as director for all conference championships hosted by UNC Pembroke and coordinating selected fund raising projects.

Haskins arrived at UNCP in 1989 and served as Lecturer in the HPER department, assistant basketball coach to current A.D. Dan Kenney, and head tennis coach until he was appointed head basketball coach in 1992.

Before stepping down in 2002, Haskins was named Co-Coach of the Year for the Peach Belt Conference. During his stint as skipper of the men's team, Haskins tallied a 105-164 record. 

In 2005, Haskins was again named PBC Coach of the Year, but this time he earned the honor as the Lady Braves' skipper. He also led UNCP to a first place finish in the Peach Belt's Northern Division and coached the school's first Peach Belt Player of the Year in Danielle Richardson. Over the past seven seasons, the Lady Braves are 59-71 in conference play and boast a home court record of 56-28.

A native of Newport News, Va., Haskins earned his associates degree in 1978 at Lees-McRae College and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in physical education at UNC Wilmington in 1980. He also served as team captain on the Seahawks' 19-10 basketball squad.

In 1981, he completed his Master of Arts degree in education at Appalachian State University and currently serves as a lecturer in UNCP's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department.

Haskins and his wife, Kelly, have two children, Morgan (8/4/91) and Connor (3/29/94). The Haskins' currently reside in Lumberton.
