Dammann, Lady Braves Capture Championships at Newberry Invite

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A two-over score of 76 on the second round sent UNCP senior Katja Dammann to the top of the individual leaderboard while the Lady Braves had each one of their golfers finish in the top-15 to capture the team championship at the Newberry Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.

The tournament, held at the par-74 Moss Creek Golf Course, was the second win for the Lady Braves this season and they have only one finish outside of the top-two in the six events they have participated in. They are currently ranked 11th in the country according to Golfstat.com's head-to-head computer rankings.

Damman's second-day score left her five-over for the tournament and gave her the medalist honors by a five-stroke advantage over Newberry's Barbara Castro. This is Dammann's second medalist honor as a member of the Lady Braves with her other win coming last year at the Battle at the Bayonet on Sept. 7-8, 2009.

Sophomore Meghan Moore earned a top-10 finish after posting a two-round score of 161 (79-82), leaving her in sixth place.

Freshman Dana Watkins rebounded from an 84 on the first round to shoot a 79 on the second round for a 163, placing her in a tie for eighth overall. Sophomore Shauna Walor shot an 86 on the second day to finish with a 164 which tie her for 10th overall.

Freshmen Kelly Sumner rounded out the Lady Braves' scorecards with a two-round total of 166 to finish in 15th.

UNCP will next be in action at the Columbus State Intercollegiate which will start on Feb. 28.
