Watkins Earns Second-Straight Golfer Of The Week Award

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Following her second-consecutive individual title at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate on Tuesday, UNCP sophomore Dana Watkins has been named this week's Peach Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Friday.

Watkins earns her second-straight weekly honor after shaving six strokes off her opening round score to lead the No. 16 Lady Braves to their third-straight win to start the year and their eighth win in their last nine events. Her second-round 71 was the only round under par at the tournament and she topped a total of 111 individuals at the event while the Lady Braves as a squad topped the 21-team field.

Watkins leads the PBC in stroke average at 75.2 which is more than a stroke better than teammate Meghan Moore. UNCP sports five of the top 10 golfers in the conference in terms of stroke average and a member of the squad has taken home top individual honors in seven of its last 10 tournaments. The Lady Braves have captured the weekly PBC award on 11 of the last 13 possible occasions as well.

Watkins and her teammates will close out the fall portion of their schedule on October 17-18 at the St. Leo Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
