No. 16 UNCP Closes Out Fall Schedule In Sixth At Saint Leo Invite

SAINT LEO, Fla. – After three-straight wins to start the season, the No. 16 UNCP women's golf squad saw their tournament championship streak come to an end on Tuesday after finishing sixth at the Saint Leo Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Saint Leo, Fla.

Five of the top ten teams in the nation according to Golfstat.com's computer head-to-head rankings were at the tournament, with host and 15th-ranked Saint Leo taking the team championship by two strokes over No. 2 Florida Southern. Seminole State (Fla.) finished third, No. 9 Barry finished fourth and No. 10 Northeastern State finished fifth, just one stroke ahead of UNCP. The Lady Braves finished four strokes ahead of Lynn, the No. 4 ranked team in the country.

Junior Meghan Moore was the top finisher for UNCP after ending the event in a tie for fourth overall. Moore posted an 80 on the second round at the par-72, 6,063-yard course. It was the 10th top-10 finish of her short UNCP career, and was her fifth top-10 finish in her last six events.

Sophomore Dana Watkins made a big jump in the second round, moving all the way from a tie for 44th overall to a tie for 13th after posting a 72 which tied for the best second round of the day. Fellow sophomore Kelly Sumner added a 79 on day two, which tied her with Watkins for 13th overall. 

Shauna Walor and Lizzie Bundy tied for 52nd overall after Walor recorded an 84 on the second round and Bundy matched her opening-round score with an 83 on day two.

The event concluded UNCP's fall schedule and the Lady Braves will return to action in February.
