Lady Braves Finish Tied For 6th At Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Tenth-ranked UNCP shaved seven strokes off their opening round to shoot a combined 312 in Sunday's final 18 holes and finish in a tie for sixth among 18 teams at the Tusculum-hosted Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at the par-72, 5,850-yard Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Four of five UNCP golfers bettered their day-one card by two or more strokes to spark the ascension in the team standings. Junior Shauna Walor (74-80/154) was the top finisher for UNCP as she settled into a tie for 16th place. Dana Watkins (79-76/155) finished in a tie for 18th place, while Meghan Moore (83-75/158) posted the best scorecard for the Lady Braves in the second round en route to finishing in a tie for 24th. Kelly Sumner (83-81/164) and Jenn Crow (83-81/164) were among six individuals tied for 47th place.

Fifth-ranked Lynn (+6) shot a tournament-best round of 285 to easily take home the event crown and best the rest of the 18-team field by 19 strokes. Second-ranked Florida Southern (+25) was second, sixth-ranked Barry (+34) was third, 20th-ranked and host Tusculum (+49) was fourth and Peach Belt Conference foe Armstrong Atlantic (+52) rounded out the top five. UNCP (+55) and Savannah College of Art & Design completed the event in a tie for sixth place.

Armstrong Atlantic's Kristen Sammarco took home medalist honors after winning a scorecard playoff with Lynn's Jessica Bradley. Three Lynn golfers, including Irene Calvo and Thalia Baigorria, were among the top five on the individual leaderboard.

UNCP will return to action, Feb. 27-28, when it travels to Columbus, Ga., for the Columbus State-hosted Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic.
