Lady Braves Lead After First Round Of Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Dana Watkins and Meghan Moore were two of just seven golfers to turn in rounds under 80, but the duo has UNCP atop the 12-team field after round one of the Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic on the par-72, 5,821 yard golf course at the Country Club of Columbus.

The ninth-ranked Lady Braves combined for a tournament-best 315 in Monday's round and are 10 strokes ahead of Shorter and 16 in front of host-Columbus State. The field also includes PBC foes Lander (334, 4th), Montevallo (337, 7th) and North Georgia (348, 10th).

Watkins carded a first-round 76 and is just three strokes off the pace set by Columbus State's Nikki Crowley in the opening round of the event. Moore shot 39s on both the front and back nine and sits in a tie for third after an opening round 78. Shauna Walor is among the tournament's top 10 leaders after booking an 80 on Monday, while Kelly Sumner (81) and Jenn Crow (92) are tied for 10th and tied for 50th, respectively.

The second and final round of the 2012 Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic will conclude with Tuesday's second round at the Country Club of Columbus. Tee times are set to begin at 9 a.m.
