Lady Braves Top Field At Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic

POOLER, Ga. – Keyed by rounds of 76 or better by both Meghan Moore and Shauna Walor, the ninth-ranked UNCP women's golf team held steady atop the 12-team field at the Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic on Monday afternoon to capture its third tournament title of the 2011-12 campaign.

Moore (78-72/150) shot at even-par in Tuesday's second round for a two-round total of 150 that placed her in second place, while Walor (80-76/156) improved her round-one total by four strokes en route to finishing in a tie for third. Dana Watkins (76-85/161) saw her score dissipate by nine strokes off her first round total, but still finished in a tie for 12th, while Kelly Sumner (81-83/164) and Jenn Crow (92-83/175) finished in a tie for 18th and in a tie for 42nd, respectively.

The Lady Braves (315-314/629) outdid the rest of the field by six strokes, including second place Lander (332-303/635) who improved its round one score by 29 strokes. Shorter (325-314/639) improved its round total by 11 strokes en route to third place, while host Columbus State (331-318/649) concluded the event in fourth place after trimming 13 strokes off Monday's round. Tusculum (335-324/659) rounded out the top five in fifth place.

UNCP will return to action, March 5-6, when it heads to Pooler, Ga., to take part in the Lady Pirate Invitational.
