Braves Jump To Third In Latest Super Region I Rankings

ERIE, Pa. – On the strength of a perfect record at the Newberry Duals, as well as a third place finish at the Midwest Classic, the UNCP wrestling team made a significant leap in the latest Super Region I rankings, ascending to third in the latest listings released on Tuesday.

In addition to the lofty team ranking, the Braves (5-0) continue to have a number of athletes listed in the individual rankings as well. All-American Russell Weakley held on to the top spot in the 125-pound listing, while fellow all-American Mike Williams continued his stranglehold on the No. 2 spot in the 165-pound rankings. Shane Nolan held on to his No. 2 ranking at 197 pounds as well.

Tyquan Easton moved up a spot to No. 3 in the 141-pound rankings, while fellow newcomer Brendon Parker-Risk made the same move in the 149-pound listing. Shiheem Bryant maintained his No. 5 listing at 184 pounds.

Newberry continues to pave the way in the region, holding on to the top spot in the region ranking for the 10th-straight poll. Pitt-Johnstown is second, West Liberty is fourth and East Stroudsburg rounds out the top five.

UNCP will return to action again this weekend when the Braves make the 1,200-mile trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take part in the prestigious NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals. NCAA Division II pairings have yet to be released by the wrestling association, but all wrestling action will take place in the University of Northern Iowa's UNI Dome.
