Braves To Battle No. 2 Newberry On Senior Night
PEMBROKE – Riding a wave of success that has seen it register wins in four of its last five outings, the 17th-ranked UNCP wrestling team will host second-ranked Newberry in a 7 p.m. dual meet on Tuesday evening in the English E. Jones Center. Admission is free.
Facing one of their toughest tasks of the season, UNCP (6-4) will look to snap a six-match series losing streak that dates back all the way to the 2005-06 season. Newberry (15-1) has captured wins in six-straight dual meets and will bring the top-ranked team in Super Region I into Pembroke as well.
The Braves boast a pair of nationally-ranked wrestlers in 165-pounded Mike Williams and 197-pounder Shane Nolan who are listed third and ninth, respectively, in the latest Basford Division II rankings. The Wolves will counter with nine nationally-ranked student-athletes, including senior Connor McDonald who is listed fifth in the rankings at 125 pounds.
Tuesday's wrestling action will be preceded by Senior Night festivities as three wrestlers – Nolan, Shiheem Bryant and Jake Ferguson – will be recognized prior to action.
