Andersson Adds One To 2009 Signing Class
PEMBROKE – UNCP women’s soccer head coach Lars Andersson announced an addition to the 2009 signing class as Rea Segoviano penned her name on a national letter of intent to play soccer with the Lady Braves.
Segoviano, a native of Jacksonville, N.C., comes to Pembroke after lettering four years at White Oak High School where she was an all-region team member while also maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
"Rea is a very athletic goalkeeper,” said Andersson. “She has quick feet, great hands and is an outstanding shot stopper. Rea needs to work a bit on defending set pieces and the high ball but I have no doubt that she will be ready to compete for the starting spot on our 2009 roster.”
Segoviano follows in the foot steps of UNCP greats Whitney Beverly and Melanie Cobb and joins fellow 2009 signees Ashley Anctil and Brittany Padilla as the next generation of Onslow County players to play for the Lady Braves.
A two-sport athlete for the Vikings, Segoviano was also a three-year letterman in basketball. During her time at White Oak HS, she earned 2008 NCHSAA All-Region laurels and was named to the Jacksonville Daily News All-Conference team. As a senior, Segoviano led the Lady Vikings to a NCHSAA 3A State Championship. Coached by Roger Carroll, she anchored the defense that allowed the OCSA ’90 Costal Crew bring home a US Club National Championship.
A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Spanish Club, Segoviano will graduate 28th in her glass of 262. The daughter of Enrique and Donella Segoviano has two younger siblings – sister, Aja, and brother, Enrique. She expects to major in exercise and sports science at UNCP.
