Svensson Named Peach Belt Player Of The Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman Anna Svensson was named the Peach Belt Conference’s player of the week Tuesday afternoon. This week marks the second time that the newcomer has received the honor.
Svensson was first recognized by the PBC on September 1 when she began her collegiate career in impressive fashion, scoring the game-tying goal against Lenoir-Rhyne in the first half and then winning the contest on the road with the golden goal 2:33 into the first overtime period. The game was the second after she opened the year at Mt. Olive with a team-high five shots. At that time, Svensson was one of six PBC players to have two goals on the season in a tie for second.
Last week Svensson was an offensive force in two conference games as she scored four of the team's five goals in a pair of wins. The freshman began with both goals in UNCP's 2-1 win over USC Aiken, then added two more in a 3-0 win over Georgia Southwestern. In both games, she alone attempted more shots than the opposing team, racking up 17 in both contests combined. Svensson is currently third in the PBC in goals scored and goals per game and second in total points.
This week the Lady Braves will take to the road, challenging Catawba on the Indian’s home turf Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. before returning home for another Peach Belt Conference contest against Lander Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
