Dunn Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
ITHACA, N.Y. – UNCP midfielder Sam Dunn was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) academic all-district first team in district three – college division, the organization announced Monday.
Dunn is the first UNCP athlete since the 2005-06 academic year to be nominated and receive honors from CoSIDA's Academic All-District team. The midfielder joined two other Peach Belt Conference athletes on district three's first team, defender Jessica Binkowski of Georgia College and forward Kristin Burton of Armstrong Atlantic.
Dunn is a 2008 PBC all-academic first team and two-time PBC Presidential Honor Roll selection (gold level) while also earning recognition as a two-time member of UNCP's Chancellor's list. The junior midfielder and team co-captain picked up the game-winning goal against Queens on Sept. 15 and has played 90+ minutes in 12 of 18 contests during the 2009 season. As a sophomore, Dunn started in all 23 games and tallied three goals and six points, including the game-winner against Georgia Southwestern on Oct. 25. Also during the 2008 season, Dunn led the team to a 19-3-1 season as the Lady Braves earned an NCAA Tournament berth. During her collegiate career, Dunn has been a member of the dean's list all four semesters.
Because Dunn was nominated to CoSIDA's first team, her statistics will advance on to the national ballot where she will have an opportunity to be nominated for ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-American team. Only paying members of CoSIDA were able to vote at the district level and determine the first-team all-district selections. At the national level, only members of the Academic All-America committee and the CoSIDA board of directors will be able to vote to determine the Academic All-America teams.
The voting period for the national ballot begins on Tuesday and will end on Nov. 10. The Academic All-America Team for women's soccer will be released on Nov. 18.
