Svensson Named To Daktronics All-Region Team

PEMBROKE – The 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer Teams were released Tuesday afternoon.  Making the All-Southeast Region second-team as a forward was UNCP freshman Anna Svensson.

The All-Southeast Region team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.

Svensson started her collegiate career in impressive fashion, taking the field in 18 of the Lady Braves' 19 contests with 17 starts to her credit and was recognized by the PBC twice as player of the week (Sept. 1 and Oct. 13).

The Norrkoping, Sweden, native has tallied up 1,443 minutes in her freshman season while recording three assists and five game-winning goals. In the PBC, Svensson has made herself offensively known in the statistics with 82 shots, second only to Kristen Burton (119) who was named the PBC's Player of the Year.

Also in the PBC, Svensson is third in shots-per-game (4.56), tied for third in points (29), third in points-per-game (1.61), tied for third in goals (13), third in goals-per-game (.72) and second in game-winning goals (5).

Taking aim with her deadly shot, Svensson recorded double-digit shots on two occasions, against USC Aiken on Oct. 7 (12) and against Barton, Oct. 28 (11), while recording at least 90 minutes of play in 11 different contests for the Lady Braves.

The Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region. The region is comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference, Chowan University and North Greenville University.

Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors.
