Padilla Named Defensive Player Of The Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore Brittany Padilla was named the Peach Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon. Padilla scored three goals in two starts for the Lady Braves this week, while also netting the game-winning scores in wins at USC Aiken and Georgia Southwestern.
A key member of the Lady Braves defense that recorded 167 scoreless minutes in the two contests, the sophomore scored the eventual game-winner on a 67th-minute penalty kick against the Pacers, and then scored the first and last goals in a 4-0 win over the Hurricanes in Americus, Ga., on Saturday.
Her five goals this season currently ranks second on the squad behind all-PBC selection Anna Svensson. Padilla follows fellow teammates Britney Bennett and Svensson in earning a PBC weekly nod.
This week the Lady Braves travel to St. Andrews (1-9-0) on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup in Laurinburg with kickoff set for 4 p.m. at Knights Field. The next conference action for UNCP is Saturday when the Lady Braves travel to Lander (7-5-0, 2-4-0 PBC) for a 1 p.m. matchup.
